The Best (And Worst) Game Companies To Work For: A Review of Employee Feedback as of 2013

Valve and Riot are the tops, according to their own people, while EA is surprisingly decent

by  4 months ago

We all have our impressions of how good a video-game company is, but, for most of us, those impressions are formed mostly from personal experience as consumers and from a kind of Internet groupthink. (“Valve is good. EA is bad. Everyone knows that.”)
Here’s insight from the people in the trenches, who have an insiders’ view of exactly what goes on behind closed doors and can offer some brutally honest assessments of what it’s like to work for the giants of video gaming.

Analyzing Employee Reviews Game Companies & CEOs

What follows is a list of the 46 significant gaming developers and publishers I picked out who have at least five ratings on Glassdoor, sorted by average rating. Glassdoor.com is a fascinating site that allows employees and former employees of virtually any company in existence – gaming or otherwise – to leave ratings and written reviews of their experiences.
Wherever possible, I used the data for the company’s North American office, since that’s the one most likely to affect readers of this site, and the one you’re most likely to work for. Also included are the approval ratings for the company’s CEO and the total number of votes cast for him.

Worst U.S. Retail Industry Companies to Work For – Annual Employee Rankings

Employee Surveys by Glassdoor.com Name Worst Retail Employers Each Year

By  different organizations release “best” lists that rate U.S. retail industry companies in a variety of ways for their performance. Few organizations are brave enough to release corresponding “worst” lists.

Glassdoor.com is one organization that publishes a “Worst Companies to Work For” list each year, based on employee surveys that evaluate eight workplace factors:

  • Senior Leadership
  • Communication
  • Employee Morale
  • Career Opportunities
  • Work/Life Balance
  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Recognition and Feedback
  • Fairness and Respect
  • What follows is a list of retail companies that were ranked as the worst retail employers since 2008, when the survey results were first published. The number in the left column indicates the “worst” ranking that each retail company was assigned according to survey results, compared to all U.S. companies in all industries. In 2008 there were 50 “worst” companies ranked, and in 2009 there were 25. The lower the ranking, the worse the company’s employee survey ratings.

Glassdoor stopped publishing it’s “worst employers” list after 2009, but using the data available on the Glassdoor website, 24/7 Wall St. has created the 2012 Worst Employers list. Out of eleven worst employers on the 2012 list, six of them are retail companies, which does not speak well for these retail chains in particular or the retail industry in general.
