David Cameron tweeted in response to a fall in the number of people out of work by 125,000 to 2.34 million: “It’s good to see another fall in unemployment. Our #LongTermEconomicPlan means more people with the security of a wage & a chance in life.”

However, the experience for job hunters on the ground is still incredibly tough as four people are fighting for every job vacancy.

Here are just six astonishingly popular vacancies that shows the jobs crisis is far from over.

• 1,700 people apply for just 8 jobs at Costa
  
  A new Costa Coffee store in Nottingham received over 1,700 job applications for just eight positions. Despite this, employment minister Esther McVey still thought it was worth urging people to be “realistic” and apply for jobs at Costa.
• Waitrose gets 35 applicants for every post
  
  More than 2,500 people applied for 70 jobs at a new Waitrose food shop set to open on Camden High Street.
• Over 4,000 applied for just 150 Tesco jobs
  
  A new Tesco store was swamped with 4,300 applications for just 150 jobs last August, with nearly 30 applicants vying for each job at the supermarket in Rowner, Hampshire.
• Thousands queue for 3 hours for a job at Aldi
  
  Around 1,500 queued for hours to fight for one of 40 jobs on offer at a local Aldi. A mother-of-two who had queued since 10am was reported saying that it “looked more like auditions for X-Factor, not a job for Aldi.”
• More than 5,000 people apply to work at Asda
  
  More than 5,000 people applied for 350 jobs at a newly built supermarket in Dundee.Store manager Graham Nelson, said: “We were surprised at the response, I don’t think we expected anything like the number of applications we received but we’ve been really encouraged to see so many people wanting to work at their local Asda store.”
• More than 500 people fight to work at Lidl
  
  More than 500 people applied for around 30 jobs on offer at a new Lidl in Kirkintilloch, in a response rate that supermarket bosses said was “unprecedented”.
