McDonald’s sued for $1.5 million by customer after employee called ‘Angel’ only gave him one NAPKIN with his meal

Webster Lucas claims he was racially abused by a McDonald’s manager

He insists ‘mental anguish’ after the incident has left him unable to work

Alleged row took place at McDonald’s in Pacoima, California, on January 29

Not lovin’ it: Customer Webster Lucas says he was racially abused by a McDonald’s store manager after a row about napkins

A McDonald’s customer is suing the fast food restaurant for $1.5million because he was given only one napkin with his meal.

Webster Lucas claims he is now unable to work because of the ‘undue mental anguish’ and ‘emotional distress’ caused by the incident.

He launched the lawsuit following a row with the store manager at the outlet in Pacoima, California, on January 29.

Tempers seem to have flared after Mr Lucas complained that he had received just a single paper towel with his Quarter Pounder Deluxe.

Mr Lucas, who is African-American, says the he was racially abused by the manager when he went back to the counter to ask for more, according to TMZ.

The employee, who is named only as ‘Angel’ and is said to be of Mexican-American appearance, is alleged to have mumbled something that sounded like ‘you people’, Mr Lucas claims.

Mr Lucas wrote a letter to the restaurant’s manager about the incident in which he complained of his treatment and said he has been mentally scarred.

Flashpoint: Mr Lucas claims he is now unable to work due to the ‘mental anguish’ and ‘emotional distress’ caused by the row sparked when he was given just one napkin with his McDonald’s Quarter Pounder Deluxe, pictured,

He wrote: ‘Good morning, after I received your email I called McDonalds in Pacoima and spoke with “Angel” (store manager) who despite the prior misconduct of his, he again was hostile and unreasonable.

‘I simply don’t understand, and it is sad that I encountered the now-current situation.

‘Thank you, but I don’t think that you will be successful in changing “Angel’s deep-seated attitude towards customers.

‘I am unable to work because of the undue mental anguish and the intentional infliction of emotional distress caused by your employee “Angel” who played around when I asked for the proper spelling of his last name… that I still don’t have. Take care.’

Australian McDonald’s Music Selection Change Lures Away Unwanted Teenage Crowds

A McDonald’s in Mount Annan, Sydney Austrailia has been forcing teenagers off of its premises with classical music late at night after The Telegraph reported Friday.
The strategy has been working in attempt to prevent the adolescents from congregating in the area.

“We’ve noticed a reduction in the number of young people hanging around, but we’ll have to reassess it properly in a couple of weeks,” the store’s operations manager, Matthew Watson, told The Macarthur Chronicle. “We play a range of classical and opera music and so far it seems to be working.”

The news is the latest development since a business in Macarthur Square in Campbelltown, New South Wales implemented the change in March 2009The Daily Telegraph reported.
This was done with the venue played songs from. singer-songwriter and producer Barry Manilow on Thursday’s.The Camden Council also conversed about the issue.
People took to The Chronicle’s Facebook page expressing mixed reactions.

“They turn it up really loud when youth are hanging around the car park,” Janeen Brady said in a post on The Chronicle’s Facebook page. “It woke me up at 1 a.m. Tuesday night and it’s only going to get worse as Xmas approaches.”

“I work nights nearby and it has made a massive difference already to the lingering and loitering in the carpark,” Sara Carrick said in her post.

“I may just stay longer,” Erin Cox posted. “I have no issue with classical music it’s quite nice.”

“It’s a shame that classical music supposedly has this impact on people,” user Stef Awns said.

The change in musical taste is a small portion of adjustments McDonald’s is making from its drive-thru pick-up windows, to its dollar menus, and McRib sandwiches.
The fast-food restaurant chain has more than 30,000 restaurants throughout the globe according to information on the United Kingdom version of the company’s website.

McDonald’s Accused Of Firing Single Mother For Donating Food To Firefighters

A McDonald’s employee claims she was fired from her job at the hamburger chain after she paid for a donation of food for firefighters.

Heather Levia, a single mother in nursing school and an eight-year employee of McDonald’s, was working the morning shift at an Olean, N.Y., McDonald’s establishment last week when she received a call from the Salvation Army and was asked if McDonald’s could donate some food to local firefighters who had been called to a house fire earlier that day, according to the Olean Times Herald. (WIVB reports the firefighters themselves placed the orders.) Levia called her corporate office and asked if the company would cover the cost, but the request was reportedly denied. So, she and her coworkers then pooled their money and paid $150 for the food.

When word got out that the employees paid the bill, the firefighters allegedly called McDonald’s to complain about Levia and the others being made to “feel obligated to pay for their [the firefighters’] meals,” according to WIVB. Levia, 23, claims her boss then told her “you opened a whole bee’s nest,” per WIVB.

On Friday, Feb. 14, Levia was fired.

McDonald’s denied allegations that she was let go for the donations in an emailed statement sent to The Huffington Post on Feb. 20, on behalf of the Olean McDonald’s owner, Tom Meyers.

“We are aware that certain allegations have been made concerning the reasons for Heather Levia’s termination,” the statement read, in part. “Out of respect for Ms. Levia and her privacy, it would not be appropriate to comment in detail on the reasons she is no longer employed by our organization. Still, it should be pointed out that the allegations are absolutely not true. We would never penalize an employee for showing appropriate gratitude for the work of our firefighters.”

Levia posted about the termination on her Facebook page, writing:

I have been with the olean mcdonalds for almost eight years.. Today I was terminated because local firefighters called for donations for food. The mcdonalds company denied the donations to help support our firefighters. Myself and two other employees paid out of pocket to feed these firemen.. asking the office before answering yes or no to these firemen. I was told I swore and Hung up on a office worker. Who would ever think that someone would lose their job for giving to those who risk their lives to save ours [all sic].

“I was told I was being fired for going against the wishes of McDonald’s as well has having my own opinion on not donating to the firefighters,” she told the Olean Times Herald. “I was so caught off-guard by this. I’m very distraught that I would be fired over something like this. I was just trying to give back to the firefighters and they weren’t asking for much
