A dog owner left the world of Twitter tickled pink when he played a colourful prank on Tesco.

The man, known only as Adam, sent the supermarket giant a tweet saying he had a complaint about one of their products.

And he followed it up with a picture of his Labrador, its fur a garish shade of pink.

Hi @Tesco I’ve got a serious problem with one of your products I’ve recently purchased.

That was accompanied by a shot of the store’s own brand Dog Shampoo with Adam asking: “Why on earth has your shampoo turned my dog pink?”

Bosses at the supermarket giant at first seemed confused, asking him to return the product with his receipt to the store he bought it from so they could investigate

However, a spokesman confirmed it was a wind-up and say they had been tickled by the prank which has so far been retweeted 14,000 times.

It was also a hit with fellow twitter users.

One said: “To be fair he looks quite pleased with his new look.”

Another remarked: “It makes me so sad this isn’t real.”

@Adamstone341 That’s most concerning Adam, if you can return the product to store with your receipt we’ll investigate. Thanks, Dan.

A Tesco spokesman said: “This is certainly is a hair raising hoax.

“Tesco pet care sensitive dog shampoo is a great product and we can guarantee it’ll leave your pooch looking pretty but definitely not in pink.”

The store’s own Twitter accounts are well known for their own horseplay on the social networking site.

In October 2012 they had a well publicised ‘tweet-off’ with the phone company O2.

And last March they trolled the beleaguered Manchester United manager at the time, David Moyes, saying he “wouldn’t fit in” at the company as they were “award winners.”
